How to Fix Missing Files in Rekordbox - the Fast Way

If Rekordbox is showing missing files with an orange exclamation mark, your tracks still exist somewhere on your computer - Rekordbox just lost track of where they are. This usually happens when you move your music to a new drive, rename a folder, or reorganize your library outside of Rekordbox.

This guide covers the fastest ways to fix missing files in Rekordbox, from Rekordbox's built-in tools to bulk solutions that handle thousands of files at once.

Why Rekordbox Shows Missing Files

Rekordbox stores the full file path for every track in your collection. When you add a track from /Users/you/Music/track.flac, Rekordbox remembers that exact path. If the file moves to /Volumes/NewDrive/Music/track.flac, Rekordbox still looks at the old path and marks it as missing.

Common causes:

• Moved your music folder to a new hard drive or SSD
• Renamed a parent folder (even just changing capitalization)
• Switched computers and the drive letter or mount point changed
• External drive not plugged in (tracks on an unmounted drive show as missing)
• Deleted files accidentally while cleaning up disk space

Rekordbox's Built-In Relocate Feature

Rekordbox has a built-in relocate feature. Right-click a missing track and select Relocate. You browse to the new location of that specific file and Rekordbox updates the path.

The problem: this works one track at a time. If you moved 2,000 files to a new drive, you need to relocate each one individually. There is no "relocate all" button.

The Folder Relocate Trick

Rekordbox 6 and 7 have a slightly better option: right-click a folder in your collection and select Relocate Folder. This updates all tracks inside that folder to a new location. It works well if you moved an entire folder and the internal structure stayed the same.

Limitations:

• Only works if the folder structure is identical at the new location
• Does not work across multiple folders or drives
• Will not help if files were reorganized or renamed
• Still requires doing it folder by folder for complex moves
